What is “Lean”?

The concept of lean was pioneered by Toyota Motor Corporation and made legendary in its Toyota Production System, a management philosophy that has been adopted by leading companies the world over. Based on the simple concept of enhancing value and reducing waste, this approach to thinking has found its way into many other areas of life and business.

To paraphrase The Lean Enterprise Institute, a lean organization understands and attempts to maximize value while minimizing waste in all areas. The ultimate goal is to deliver perfect value to customers through a perfect value creation process that has zero waste.

How does lean apply to Profits Plus?

The other day we were talking to a customer and it became apparent to us that they weren’t very happy. We decided to meet with them at our office and asked them to bring us their list of concerns. An hour and a half later all their concerns were resolved.

It turned out that they have been on Profits Plus for over 20 years and most of the procedures they were using were still based on the realities of technology and business as it was at that time. They were drowning in paperwork, cutting paper checks to employees, printing and stuffing invoices and statements, and doing lookups or accessing functions as they were instructed to do 20 years ago. This was causing a lot of frustration.

Even though their system was regularly updated and capable of paperless operations, efficient lookups, and integrations, it became very clear to us that we had not done a good job of communicating this to them. Old habits die hard and unless a concerted effort is made to change, it often doesn’t happen. While we were sending out update summaries, we didn’t explain why they should be investing their time reading them.

What does it mean to you?

After an internal huddle, we decided that we need to be more proactive about effectively communicating with our customers on how best to use their Profits Plus systems. We also decided that in order to get your attention, we must first clearly articulate why this is important to you.

To that end we concluded that the concept of “lean” would appeal to you. After all who doesn’t want to enhance value for their customers and reduce waste? That’s how the concept of “The Lean Profits Plus” implementation was born. In keeping with the philosophy, quite simply this means tuning your system’s configuration and processes to maximize efficiency, accuracy, speed, and customer satisfaction while reducing or eliminating unnecessary steps and frustration.

Also in keeping with the philosophy we want to make the process of getting there useful and enjoyable. Hence we have defined a structured approach with which to facilitate this for our customers. We are now looking for a limited number of early adopters to come forward and take this journey with us at no charge.

If you are interested in a Lean Profits Plus implementation at your company, please email usor call to schedule a discovery call. We look forward to hearing from you.
